If your router and extender use the same WiFi network name (SSID), follow these instructions:
Note: These instructions apply only to the following extenders
Setting up your Netgear Wi-Fi range extender doesn’t have to be confusing. Below is a clear, official method that walks you from powering on your device to expanding your Wi-Fi coverage effectively.
✔ Your router must already be online and working.
✔ Have your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password ready.
✔ If your extender has a switch, ensure it’s set to Extender.
Plug in your extender near your router.
Wait for the extender’s Power LED to light solid (green or blue).
⚠ If you don’t see NETGEAR_EXT, resetting the extender to factory defaults often helps
Open a web browser and enter: mywifiext.net.
Either the setup screen appears or the NETGEAR Genie tool starts searching for networks.
Click NEW EXTENDER SETUP if prompted.
Accept terms if requested.
Set an admin username and password for your extender.
Select your current Wi-Fi network from the list.
Enter your Wi-Fi password.
Choose extended SSIDs (often auto-generated).
Click NEXT and let the extender apply your settings.
✔ After configuration, return to your device’s Wi-Fi settings and connect to the NEW extended network name.
✔ Once connected, move the extender to a better position — ideally halfway between your router and weak signal area.
If your extender isn’t connecting after setup, click on chat to connect with a live agent for assistance.
